Concerto is the offspring of a flash application I made November of 2009
To make a really long story short, this application will take midi input through either a file or a midi controller via USB and display the notes being played as dots floating across the screen. The color of the dot is representative of the note being played. for example, the note sequence D F G would 3 dots, purple, orange-red and orange, their position depending on the octave they were played in and the timing at which they were played. Here is a screen-shot of the latest iteration not featured in any youtube clips.

Fur Elise

What you are seeing in this image is the first few bars of the classic Beethoven Piece “Fur Elise”. The color of the dot represent which note it is, and the size represents how hard the note was pressed. You’ll notice the many lines connecting the different notes, these lines are the “musical distance” the notes are from one another. Lines are only drawn when notes are pressed down at the same time. In this way, a major chord not only sounds different, but looks different. I’m currently working on a whole slew of additions to this application, mainly moving it from native flash actionscript code to Adobe Air so it can be run on the desktop. Any ideas for this would be greatly encouraged, and if you’re a developer and you’re interested, you may just be able to convince me to give you my source code …. maybe :)
